Forest Stearns is the creator of the first-ever orbiting art exhibit in outer space. Stearns illustrates and laser etches surfaces of 250+ Dove and Skybox satellites at Planet Labs, an Earth-imaging company based in San Francisco, CA. Joining Planet’s team in 2013, he worked alongside engineers, scientists, bankers, and makers to integrate art into all facets of company culture, driving innovation and inspiration. Director and Founder of Planet’s Artist-in-Residence program, Stearns invites local and international visiting artists to create at Planet, boldly inspiring cross pollination of ideas, techniques, and problem solving in art and technology. Adopting the spirit and methodology of LATE NITE ART, a creative events organization, Stearns facilitates creative expression through educational hands-on events and installations. A prolific visual artist, educator, and facilitator, Forest Stearns grants “creative permission,” to everyone he meets – encouraging business executives, children, artists, and people everywhere to “let go of their fears and pick up the pen.
